Session Topics - Keynotes
Changing the Paradigm - Gever Tully, Founder Brightworks
High schools are changing, college admissions are changing, the world is changing... A paradigm shift is in the works and traditional structures of education can no longer be assumed. In fact, the latest science on learning for the 21st Century demands an overhaul of the outdated school model. The stakes are high and current systems are not serving learners in a good way. The great news is smart committed people are reimagining our institutions from the inside out; creating environments in which learners benefit from personalized, interest-driven, self-directed, real-world and values-based learning. Gever will address more hopeful approaches and productive ways to learn that allow young people to thrive. |
All Learning Counts - Sarah Azizi, Business Devlopment and Partnerships Degreed
Learning doesn't stop at the end of a semester, after a test, or after a degree... Adaptation and realignment will be essential to keep up with our rapidly changing world. Education is becoming increasingly more granular, customizable, fluid and open-sourced. An increasing number of families and individuals are forging their own learning paths; Life-long learning is both possible and necessary. Sarah will address the need to design learning pathways and the upcoming changes in signaling/credentialing systems and illustrate ways in which competence evaluation is becoming increasingly more peer and community-based. |
The Future of Learning - Teen Panel
Meet the millennials, post millennials, extreme learners, and the new economy...
Knowledge is growing at an exponential rate and the majority of young people will be entering jobs that do not yet exist, using technologies that have not yet been invented. Technological advances and lifestyle changes have radically transformed what is needed from learning and broken open what is possible. The Millennials and Post-millennials will demand change, because their needs cannot be met by the existing system. This panel will discuss what teens need to feel confident as they begin their trajectory towards, college, career, trade or entrepreneurship.
